Safe, Efficient, and High-Quality Power Supply

T&D Business

For safe and clean electricity to brighten our daily lives,
we aim to stably supply electricity through a highly reliable power grid.

Transmission and
Substation Business

Using AI, data analytics, and predictive diagnostics systems,
we are building a sustainable and stable power infrastructure.

Transmission Business

We efficiently deliver electricity by building and operating a highly reliable power grid.

Overhead Transmission

01 Overhead Transmission

Connecting Power Through Towering Structures

Overhead transmission involves installing power lines on supporting structures (such as towers and poles) to deliver electric power. It transmits electricity at high voltages like 765 kV, 345 kV, and 154 kV for higher efficiency. The overhead transmission employs insulators to ensure electricity flows only through the power lines.

Underground Transmission

02 Underground Transmission

The Path of Electricity Hidden Underground

Underground transmission delivers electricity by installing power cables in power ducts, conduits, or manholes. Underground cables transmit electricity at high voltages like 345 kV and 154 kV. Commonly implemented in densely populated areas, the undergrdound transmission lines supply electricity via connection boxes.

Substation Business

We adjust voltage and frequency and regulate power flow to maintain a stable power grid.

Digital Substations

01 Digital Substations

The Future of Power in a Digital Era

Substations convert the voltage of electricity so that the customers can use it. Digital substations digitize information exchange between transformers, switchgear, and protection equipment. This enables self-diagnosis of the assets, automatic power restoration, and smart substation operation.

Grid Stabilization Equipment

02 Grid Stabilization Equipment

Stabilization Devices That Regulate Energy Flow

Grid stabilization equipment enhances the stability of power supply. The energy storage system("ESS") captures and stores electricity, delivering it on demand to enhance energy efficiency and stabilize fluctuations in power consumption. The Flexible AC Transmission System("FACTS") regulates power flow, optimizes transmission line performance, and reduces voltage fluctuation, ensuring a stable and reliable power supply.

Predictive Diagnostic System

03 Predictive Diagnostic System

Protecting Power Equipment by Preventing Failures

Predictive diagnostic system uses real-time sensors and analyzes the data from them to detect abnormalities in power assets and prevent failures in advance. It monitors both online and offline data from GIS, transformers, and underground transmission cables to assess asset status.

HVDC

Harnessing new technologies, high voltage direct current("HVDC") transmission, KEPCO efficiently transmits electricity over long distances by converting AC to DC.

Conversion

01 Conversion

AC to DC: The Beginning of Innovation

First, AC is converted to DC by power semiconductors. Through collaboration with leading global power companies, technology transfers, and national research projects, KEPCO is actively localizing and developing the HVDC transmission technology.

Transmission

02 Transmission

A New Path for Energy Flow

As we have advanced the DC transmission technology, we are actively applying it to the projects for which DC transmission is advantageous to AC transmission. We are developing Korea’s longest HVDC transmission line that connects the power plants in the east coast and the capitol area. Through collaboration with Korean cable manufacturers, we have achieved world-class HVDC underground transmission technology, ranking among the top five globally, and are commercializing the technology.

Distribution Business

We supply electricity to people through our safe and efficient power distribution network for batter quality of life.

Power Supply

Our advanced distribution network ensures stable and efficient electricity supply.

Distribution Network Construction

01 Distribution Network Construction

Laying the Foundation for Innovation in Power Infrastructure

Distribution network construction involves building power infrastructure to meet increasing demand for electricity. By adopting new and eco-friendly materials, and ICT technologies, we build safe and highly reliable distribution network. Additionally, we are researching advanced distribution system, including DC distribution.

Distributed Energy

02 Distributed Energy

Transitioning to a Sustainable Energy Paradigm

With the enactment of the Distributed Energy Act, a shift toward localized demand-supply system is underway in Korea. To ensure the stable operation of distribution network, KEPCO has established long-term distribution plans and operation policies while developing future distribution technologies such as monitoring and control systems for distributed energy to enable efficient power supply.

Smart Distribution Networks

03 Smart Distribution Network

Optimizing Power Flow with Intelligent Control

Smart distribution networks are designed to monitor and control complex bidirectional flow in real time, adapting to the increasing integration of renewable energy power generators and flexible resources. Through real-time grid analysis, we enhance operational accuracy and efficiently, and deal with fluctuating renewable energy power generation.

Distribution Network Operations

Ensuring a Safe and Seamless Power Supply for Workers and Consumers

Power Outage Prevention

01 Power Outage Prevention

Safeguarding Electricity Supply

To enhance quality of electricity and prevent outages, KEPCO inspects the assets, engages AI to diagnose them, diagnoses customers' assets using thermal imaging, and prevents fire to the assets.

Use of Insulated Stick Operations

02 Use of Insulated Sticks

Protecting Workers from Electric Shock

To prevent personal injury by electrical shock, KEPCO is recommending use of insulated sticks for non-contact live-line work, instead of insulated gloves. We have developed insulated sticks and equipment suitable for all distribution sites, while continuously exploring new methods that enhance both safety and efficiency.

Scheduled Power Shutdowns

03 Scheduled Power Shutdowns

Prioritizing Safety While Minimizing Disruptions

Scheduled shutdown allows the workers to complete their jobs faster and safer, as the power lines are temporarily disconnected. KEPCO notifies tha affected customers in advance and offers real-time updates via its app and website to minimize inconvenience.

Electricity Metering

Providing Power Data to Customers through a Digital Platform for Better Transparency

Smart Metering Service

01 Smart Metering Service

A Smart Partner for Efficient Use of Electricity

KEPCO offers an AMI platform called Power Planner, which provides various information to the customers with smart meters, so that they can be better-informed about their use of electricity. Power Planner is accessible by smart phones and personal computers, and provides information including real-time meter readings, use pattern analysis, notifications on used amount, and comparison with peer customers.

Smart Metering Operations

02 Smart Metering

A Digital Innovation for Transparent Energy Management

KEPCO's smart metering system uses electronic power meters, which allows customers to access useful information, such as real-time power usage and estimated fee. This empowers customers to actively reduce their energy consumption while ensuring a stable response to fluctuations in the distribution network.
