Social Contribution Activities
Founded in May 2004 under the slogan of “Light to the World, Love to Our Neighbors,” KEPCO Social Volunteer Corps had integrated volunteering activities carried out personally and sporadically into company-wide systematic and professional social contribution activities.
| Love Fund | A social contribution fund to which 91% of employees voluntarily make certain amounts of contributions from their monthly pay. With the company matching the employees' contributions, the entire fund is allocated to the volunteer groups at different levels of company organization to support their activities. |
|---|---|
| Matching Grant | To support a wide range of social contribution activities by volunteer groups, KEPCO contributes a certain percentage of the employees' contributions to Love Fund, increasing the total amount of donation. |
To engage in social contribution activities more professionally, KEPCO organized and operates a professional rescue team that provides rescue, medical support, and field support, which is the only professional disaster rescue organization operated by public enterprise. The Team develops emergency service experts and provides related trainings to strengthen its readiness and to ultimately help people and fulfill our corre value.
| Key Activities | Gangwon Samcheok wildfire suppression (2022); Pohang flood relief efforts (2022); Medical support for the PyeongChang Olympics (2018); Typhoon Chaba recovery support in Ulsan (2016); Medical support for the Gwangju Universiade (2015); Water safety support for the Incheon Asian Games (2014); Underwater cleanup of the Miryang River (2013); Typhoon Sanba recovery support in Yeosu (2012); Heavy rainfall disaster relief (2011); and East Coast heavy snow disaster relief in Pohang (2011) |

Blue carbon refers to carbon absorbed by ocean plants and tidal flats. These coastal areas can take in carbon up to 50 times faster than land forests, offering a strong solution for cutting emissions. Next to the Wando Converter Station site, we planted 150,000 seagrass shoots over 3 hectares to create a “sea forest.” This project will help bring marine life back to the area and support our journey toward carbon neutrality.
KEPCO provides high-efficiency home appliances, home improvements, and energy-related advices to the low-income households to create an energy-efficient society where everyone can live comfortably.
KEPCO is committed to improving energy welfare by providing discounts and subsidies or donating briquettes to the low-income households who are having hard time paying their electricity bills or keeping their briquette boilers running.
We fund sight-saving treatment for people at risk of blindness in underserved and vulnerable communities. Partnering with specialist medical organizations, we cover costs for surgeries such as corneal transplants and provide vision therapy for children with low vision - opening the door to new hope and a brighter future.
We support social economy enterprises so they can stand on their own and keep growing. We hold events where they meet investors, help them earn key certifications, and open up new sales channels. These efforts create social value, and boost local communities.
We offer scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students majoring in electrical engineering considering family income, grades, and achievements, so top-performing students and those from low-income backgrounds can both benefit. By doing so, we are nurturing the next generation of leaders for the power industry.
